While the St Lucia Community eagerly awaits Irina's imminent arrival, St Lucia News will be out and about, armed with photographic and video cameras, capturing the effects of the cyclone, during and after the event.
As of this morning, weathersa.co.za published lower-than-initially-thought wind speeds (now 120km/h), rainfall (now approx. 200mm) and storm surge (now 3-6 metres) for the next five days.
It's going to be especially interesting to see what impact Irina will have on the possible opening of the St Lucia Estuary Mouth. Whilst it is almost certain that the storm surge will breach the beach, perhaps the most likely short term effect of the eventual opening of the estuary mouth will be the Umfolozi River breaking into the estuary.
