This morning, 9 December, St Lucia residents took to the streets for a five kilometre walk in order to raise money for breast cancer awareness.
Sporting pink outfits, approximately 100 people participated in the walk which started on St Lucia's main road and included the Igwalagwala trail. Much fun was had by all, adults and children alike, and even some dogs, also dressed in pink, joined in. In a festive manner, the walkers were met with music, boerewors rolls and cake as they crossed the finish line.
Today's walk was organised by Cenessa Stork, a long time member of the St Lucia and Monzi communities, in order to raise money for breast cancer research. The Cancer Association of South Africa, CANSA, provided the walkers with pink t-shirts and the representative at the event said that it was a successful morning; the turnout was very good and everybody enjoyed themselves while participating in a good cause. CANSA is a non-profit organisation which aims to lead the fight against cancer in South Africa. For more information on how to organise a fund raiser for CANSA, visit www.cansa.org.za.
