A brief note to get this site rolling; I couldn't help but report on some wonderful sightings recently made by the St Lucia community and visitors.
After a brief hiatus from the town's streets, St Lucia's hippos
are back in town. Many were spotted last
night, at sites including Kingfisher Street and Dolfyn Laan, as well
as at Estuary Beach.
We also heard of two leopard sightings last night, one on the road leading to the estuary and the other near the bridge. Where else in the world can these beautiful creatures be seen roaming the streets of civilisation? Also last night, a civet crossed Beach Road in front of us. We, in St Lucia, are truly blessed to have such wildlife literally on our doorstep! Apart from leopard and hippo, numerous smaller species such as bushbabies; African wild cats; serval; large spotted genet; banded-, water- & large grey mongoose and, of course, vervet monkeys make regular appearances around town, not to mention the abundant bird life throughout the day.

While it is a truly life changing
experience seeing wildlife around town, please always remember that
these animals are wild, they should always be given their space and
enjoyed a little way off.
