Long weekend, half marathon and a celebrity to visit town

Archive photo from 2012 event
On the weekend of 27th and 28th April St Lucia will host its second annual half marathon. Much the same as last year's event, with scenic routes through town, however, this year more emphasis is being placed on more activities and discounted accommodation & tours for visitors during the course of the weekend.

The St Lucia Ratepayers Association is organising the event in conjunction with the iSimangaliso Park Authority and, as far as St Lucia News is aware, as per last year's inaugural event, participants will get to
choose from a variety of running routes including a kids' walk, a 5km walk, as well as 10km and 21km runs. Routes will be designed to include some of the attractions St Lucia has to offer including the Boardwalk and iGwalagwala Trail. The aim of an annual event such as this is to provide the St Lucia Community with a chance to take a step back from the daily grind and participate in something fun that the whole family can enjoy. And, as this event is open to everybody, whether St Lucia resident or not, it also provides the opportunity for the St Lucia Community to show visitors why our town is the coastal gem of KZN. Enter the event with your friends & family and be prepared to enjoy a weekend of exercise and excitement. Rumour has it that a TV personality will be visiting St Lucia that weekend too so the St Lucia Community and visitors alike will just have to attend the braai organised for the Saturday afternoon to find out just who is paying our little town a visit. Participants' entry fees, as well as donations from those not planning on participating, will be put towards the continued conservation of St Lucia's and the wetland park's wildlife. Once confirmed, we will keep the St Lucia Community abreast of how and where their funds will be spent.

A variety of accommodation establishments and tour operators have kindly offered discounted services for the duration of the weekend, a list of which can be found here.

At this stage, as far as St Lucia News is aware, no entry or registration forms are available, however, for information on entering, as well as more information on the weekend's activities, please email me on tamlynhead@gmail.com or contact the St Lucia Ratepayers Association.
