St Lucia News file photo |
Yesterday evening, 7 February, Hornbill Road, a favourite feeding place for hippo & bushbuck and a favourite hunting ground for leopard, was the scene of what appeared to be inter-troop fighting amongst St Lucia's sizeable population of vervet monkey.
At first glance the commotion appeared to be the usual turf wars, however, upon closer inspection, it was the mothers with very young babies who were involved in the almost hour-long fight, with the big males getting involved only occasionally. Special attention was paid to the babies by other members of the troops in between bouts of fighting.
