Following recent reports of a lioness on the loose in the Heatonville area near Empangeni, a statement from KZN Wildlife released on Thursday, 27 June, confirmed the presence of what resembles lion spoor in the area.
An employee of Tambothi Farm in Heatonville was allegedly confronted by the lioness on Monday, 24 June, but managed to retreat without being attacked. A "lion call-up" conducted by KZN Wildlife this week yielded no positive results, however, Field Rangers remain in the area searching for fresh spoor.
Residents of the Heatonville/Ntambanana areas are requested to contact Phumla Zulu on 072 465 4420 or Roy Jones on 082 559 2852 should the lioness make another appearance.
