'Hoots' of Support for Durban's First Rhino March

On Tuesday, 10 July, approximately 200 people took to the streets in Durban's first Rhino March.  The march took place in Durban's City Centre, starting at the Christian Centre and ending at the City Hall.  A modest crowd, however, the time and place of this march was a tactical decision, aimed at coinciding with the International Wildlife Management Congress, which took place at Durban's International Conference Centre (ICC) this week.

St Lucia Man Attacked by Hippo

Last night, 12 July, a KZN Wildlife employee was attacked by a hippo on his property.  He was rushed to the hospital in Richards Bay where he spent a few hours in surgery.

St Lucia Estuary Tours

A handful of tour operators in St Lucia have the rights to take guests on estuary boat trips in order to view hippos, crocs and the area's abundant bird life up close.  St Lucia News was recently invited to help celebrate the launch of the estuary's newest addition, the ShakaBarge, operating north of the bridge.

Good Start to Whale Watching Season

This year's whale watching season is well underway with a local operator reporting 9 Humpback Whales and approximately 150 Common Dolphins spotted on Thursday 7 June.

Croc Centre Hosts Snake Handling Course

A snake handling course, scheduled for this Sunday 10 June, will be conducted by renowned Herpetologist and published author, Johan Marais, at St Lucia's Croc Centre.

St Lucia KZN Town of the Year Finalist

 St Lucia has been chosen by the public as KwaZulu-Natal's town of the year.  Our town beat both Newcastle and Dundee in this year's competition and we look forward to the national round of the competition; the winner of which will be announced later this winter.  Well done St Lucia!
