Last night, 12 July, a KZN Wildlife employee was attacked by a hippo on his property. He was rushed to the hospital in Richards Bay where he spent a few hours in surgery.
He sustained serious injuries to one of his legs which the doctors were, unfortunately, unable to save and amputated below the knee.
He sustained serious injuries to one of his legs which the doctors were, unfortunately, unable to save and amputated below the knee.
According to local reports he is now in a stable condition, although still in ICU.
This incident occurs just days after reports of hippos causing damage to people's vehicles and gardens.
We at St Lucia News wish Anthony Swatton a speedy recovery and are sure our tight-knit community will help out whereveer possible.
