The bull hippo thought to have been responsible for biting Anthony Swatton on Thursday, 12 July, was captured and removed after re-entering Swatton's premises on Sunday.
The Wetland Park Authority confirmed on Monday, 16 July, that the hippo was captured and removed by KZN Wildlife's game capture unit. It was then loaded into a crate and transported to the bomas at the neighbouring HluhluweImfolozi Park's Centenary Centre where it will be sold to a private buyer at the park's auction later this year.
iSimangaliso Operations Director, Herbert Mthembu, said that "Visitors are reminded that while the prevalence of wildlife in the
village is one of its most popular characteristics and greatest
attractions, care must always be taken to stay out of the way of any
wild animal... Hippo in particular can be aggressive when cornered, threatened or separated from water."
