Fatal Car Accident Provides Motive for St Lucia Community School

In the wake of a fatal car accident last month, in which a St Lucia school girl was seriously injured and another killed, comes plans for St Lucia's very own community school.

With a number of St Lucia children having to attend schools in Hluhluwe, Mtubatuba and as far afield as Empangeni, the need for a local school has been in great demand for some time, it's just a pity that it's taken such a tragedy to actively pursue the idea.

Still very much in its infancy, the idea of a St Lucia community school has been put to a number of local parents by one parent currently educating her daughter by means of the home schooling system. By all accounts the concept of a community school in St Lucia has been welcomed by local parents and, with some teachers already residing in the village and keen on the idea, a St Lucia community school may well become a reality sooner than we think. A classic example of a tragic situation producing something good, providing a school in our town for our children would help families spend quality time together instead of being separated by boarding school times and an unforgiving commute.

St Lucia News will keep readers updated on this story. Any St Lucia parents or residents wanting to find out more, please email me at tamlynhead@gmail.com and I will gladly pass on your details to those spearheading the initiative.
