St Lucia X Factor 1st Fundraiser a Huge Success

The hugely successful inaugural fundraiser for St Lucia X Factor was held on Monday evening, 10 December, at John Dory's in St Lucia.

The 39 ticket holders occupied the outside deck of the restaurant for the evening during which they enjoyed a sit down meal and some wine. The evening's festivities included live music kindly donated by Ian Taylor and as the evening wore on, much dancing took place.
As well as St Lucia News, Zululand Observer's Cenessa Stork was in attendance to provide additional media coverage of the event.

Anthony Swatton, who was attacked by a hippo at his residence in St Lucia earlier this year, attended the function with his wife, Julie. His ticket was kindly sponsored by John Dory's. Both appeared to have enjoyed the evening.

St Lucia X Factor is an aspiring association with a goal of boosting community spirit through a common bond; St Lucia's unique wildlife. Currently with 3 board members who are the founders and acting in an interim capacity until the first AGM on February 28, 2013 where local residents can apply to be members, nominate and vote in a Management Board for the following year.

During the course of the evening two members of the society were nominated. The two nominees are Riette Bennett and Glenn De Gaspary. St Lucia X Factor is happy to announce they accepted their nominations and very thankful for their support.

As with all fundraisers, the question of its financial success is usually the first question on people's lips. What made the St Lucia X Factor's inaugural event a raging success was the R15 000 in donations that
was raised. These funds are broken down as follows:

39 tickets sold prior to the event = R3900
Little Eden kindly donated R2500
Ndiza Lodge kindly donated R2500
Leopard Corner B&B kindly donated R300
BIBS Backpackers kindly donated R1000
John Dory's Management kindly donated R1000
Advantage Tours kindly donated R3000
From local business owners, June of Zulani B&B kindly raised, through her own initiative, R600
The donation box at the end of the evening contained R250
Donations continue to be deposited into St Lucia X Factor's bank account by those who were unable to
attend the event.
If you would like to contribute to the cause the banking details are:
FNB
Account name: St Lucia X Factor
Account number: 62387501672
Branch code: 250655

While the money from this fundraiser will go towards the X Factor's first project - a statue of Vincent the hippo - The Board plans to organise further fundraisers at quarterly intervals. They have not set a financial target as they would rather raise funds on an ongoing basis for several proposed projects in St Lucia. Candace has a few ideas for future fundraisers so watch this space as St Lucia News will publicise all future events.
