St Lucia-iSimangaliso Half Marathon

Scheduled for the 20th of May 2012, this annual event will commence at St Lucia's Ski Boat Club at 8am sharp.

The St Lucia-iSimangaliso Half Marathon consists of a 21km, which is a qualifier for the Comrades Marathon; a 10km run and a 5km run. Challenges can be set, where local businesses can challenge each other in the race.
The inclusion of the shorter distance events should encourage the participation of people of varying fitness levels.
There will be spot prizes to ensure a fun, yet competitive day enjoyed by all. Families with children are most welcome; a 2km fun run/walk is planned for all to enjoy.

The entry form will be available online later this week and the address of the website will be published on St Lucia News. This website will include a map of the various routes, as well as everything else that participants can expect from the day.   Proceeds gained from entry fees will go towards the buying and installing of tracking collars for the protection of the rhinos of the iSimangaliso Wetland Park.

It is the belief that St Lucia's natural beauty, including the Igwalagwala Trail, Boardwalk and St Lucia Game Park, through which these races are run, will encourage the return of both local and visiting participants. In the future, the organising committee plans to make a weekend of this annual event by adding cycle races and arts & crafts fairs to the programme in order to entice entire families to enjoy a fun-filled weekend in St Lucia.

So dust your running shoes off and enter the St Lucia-iSimangaliso Half Marathon.
