Woman Killed by Crocodile in St Lucia Estuary

This morning, 3 April, an unnamed woman was killed by a crocodile whilst fishing from the Maphelane side of St Lucia Estuary.  Eye witnesses stated that she went into the water to retrieve her fish, where a crocodile was lying.  The crocodile then seized her and drowned her.

Xander Combrink and Jon Warner of the Zululand Nile Crocodile Project - EKZNW were called to the scene to retrieve the woman's body which they then handed over to the Police.  This highlights the importance of being vigilant whilst fishing and to be aware of both crocodiles and hippos in what is their natural habitat.
